March is my favorite month, a lot of you would think its December because I am such a fan of Christmas, but you are wrong! March is this Kansas girl’s Christmas! All the excitement without wrapping presents, March has it all the thrill of victory the agony of defeat and yummy chicken wings in between. Yes, that’s right I’m talking basketball and the NCAA tournament! It is my everything and I wait all year for this one shining moment. No Santa Clause but you do get a Cinderella, a dark horse, and royalty. Who wouldn’t love March Madness with all those trimmings?
Selection Sunday was a huge event in my household. We would all gather around the TV, eating my mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup, anticipating where our beloved Jayhawks would be seated. Back in the dark ages we had to wait until the next day’s paper arrived and then make copies of the bracket. I had to fill out two brackets one using my heart and the other using my head. Usually by the end of the first round both brackets were completely busted and so was my pride! Next came the taunting from my brothers and I would lock myself in my room swearing to never come out. One of my brothers would coax me out with a pan of brownies and being the chocoholic that I am it worked every time! After eating half the pan of brownies, I would venture out with a smile on my face and hope in my heart that my remaining teams would make it to the Final Four, redeeming my busted bracket.
Win or lose I have always enjoyed the madness of March!
Now that I have kids of my own, we still get hyped up for all the pageantry and traditions. You know the saying “what goes around comes around?” Well, I am getting the coming around portion of that saying. My youngest Stone is just as spirited about his NCAA brackets as his mother, maybe more?! Check out the video of Stone on our Sideline Chic Facebook Page! I would attach it here... but I'm not quite sure how to do that yet!! Like my brothers’ brownies I hope the video brought a smile to your face. Let the madness begin!!
We are excited to share with you our first Sideline Chic blog! Each month we will bring you our Sideline Chic team fashion, traditions, recipes, interesting stories, and some “mom hacks” that as a parent can make your life a little easier.
